Part-Time English Associate Pastor Position

Praise the Lord! San Diego Chinese Mandarin Church (SDCMC) is a predominantly Mandarin-speaking Christian church experiencing exciting new growth. As Chinese families immigrate to the United States, children, youth, and young adults are increasingly immersed in English-speaking schools and workplaces. In response, our congregation is shifting from primarily elderly Mandarin-speaking adults to include more young adults and couples with children.

Currently, our church is led by a bilingual Pastor and a Board of Deacons. To support this growth and maintain family unity, church leadership has prayerfully decided to launch an English-speaking ministry to inspire spiritual growth among the next generation, while maintaining connection with their Chinese cultural background.

We are seeking a part-time Associate Pastor who is called by God and passionate about ministering to youth and young adults. The ideal candidate will be committed to building a Christ-centered, biblical community, reaching the lost, and igniting a genuine passion for Christ that leads to transformed lives.

Position Details:

  1. Part-time (approx. 15–20 hours/week, flexible).

  2. Potential for full-time staff position, based on ministry growth.

  3. Compensation commensurate with qualifications and experience, and regular periodic review of ministry demonstration.

 

Qualifications:

  • Calling: A clear sense of calling from God to serve in youth and young adult ministry, with relevant experience of English ministry in North America.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills; able to connect across generations and cultures. A heart to serve within a Chinese-American church context. English-speaking (Mandarin Chinese ability is a plus).

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Bible, Theology, or related field (seminary training preferred; current seminary students welcome).

  • Agreement with SDCMC Statement of Faith (https://www.sdcmc.org/ourfaith).

  • Spiritual Gifts & Character: Committed follower of Jesus Christ; a mature role model to youths and young adults, marked by godly character, servant leadership, and strong preaching and teaching gifts with a commitment to the authority of Scripture.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and lead an English-speaking Ministry as a participant in the church leadership team; oversee Sunday English worship for Youth and Young Adults. Build a core leadership team in service of Sunday school, small group, etc.

  2. Prepare and deliver sound biblical messages and teaching tailored for youth and young adults.

  3. Collaborate with church leaders to facilitate Youth and Young Adult small group fellowship through Bible study with life-application and personal engagement activation of instruction material.

  4. Raise up disciple-makers (see 2 Timothy 2:2) by providing individual and group training and coaching, mentoring and discipling, admonishing and counseling, equipping and guiding.

  5. Meet regularly with parents of youth for updates, support, and spiritual care.

  6. Plan and organize spiritually enriching events, evangelistic outreach, and community engagement activities.

  7. Fostering a sound relationship with God among youth and young adults by sharing faith openly

  8. Help and coordinate with Children’s Sunday School and Adult English Bible classes.

  9. Work alongside Mandarin ministries in joint worship services and special events.

  10. Provide English ministry plans and regular updates to the Deacon Board for strategy alignment and adjustments.
